Switzerland, officially the Swiss Confederation (Confœderatio Helvetica in latin) is a litle federal state on central Europe.

Switzerland is bordered by Germany, France, Italy, Austria and the tiny principality of Liechtenstein. Switzerland has a population of 7'427'000 with a density of 176 inhabitants/km2 and it's capital is Bern.

Although located on the European continent you should have in mind that Switzerland is not a member of the European Union. Nevertheless Switzerland signed the Shenguen agreement which eliminates regular customs check and creates a common Visa to all participants. Nevertheless anticipating possible problems we took our passports with us.

At Barcelona airport (our starting point) we were required to show some ID in order to enter the terminal from which our flight departed (I'm not talking about the regular airport security) we used our identification cards instead of our passports and went on without a problem. At Zurich everyone, Swiss citizens included, had to show some ID to customs officials to get into the country. Yet again we showed our respective countries ID cards and went on without a problem. When leaving Switzerland the story repeated itself without us really noticing if it was normal airport security or a customs.
